Kibum did a slight unboxing of the album & even though he was tight on time, but most of things fits right so it was an album that is out after 6 months. Even though it’s tough to fit each other’s schedule to film for the challenge, such contents were diligently made to match the new era.
FILMING WITH HIS MEMBERS on 230909
Kibum couldn’t recall the name of D Tower that SM is renting and went ‘What is the tower that we are paying yearly rent right now?’ and shared that whatever that is, they needed to get approval to film, even if it’s on film camera, and he is glad that they were given the green light do so. He filmed for something yesterday too and even though this will be shared later, he is happy to meet his members after a while but because he still have something left to film on his own, he had to stay back while all his members already left work.
Kibum: “We are seeing each other after really a long time. We saw each other everyday during HARD… We filmed an ad? one of it? anyway at the very end, I had more to film so I filmed it while the other two went off and I was like this feels weird right? Our relationship is like… we don’t know about who cherishes who who loves who but not even one of them waited for me ㅋㅋㅋ”

The film camera contents are not taken by director Kim Helen, but are actually SM self-contents taken by 3 staffs. this was made in a very short period of time.
GOOD & GREAT UNBOXING
1. Decorating Diary: Kibum has been asking for this since last time. it’s a notebook decoration in a work report format. kibum’s handwritings were taken very last minute and was put to good use. there are drawings by kibum too.
2. Cover letter
There’s boksilee pictures too. This wasn’t Kibum’s idea but he asked if it could be put to a practical use to put CD and it was well made in this way.
3. ID card: Kibum said that he really liked this. It’s being made with the actual material used to make ID cards and was made by the actual company that made SM employee cards. They were having a meeting and everyone was having their ID card on so Kibum went ‘can’t we do that?’ and after that a sample was made before the final product was finally out.

MIRROR MIRROR
Written by Kibum and it’s an R&B song. Even though there’s a very high pitch part in this song, it’s leaves a calm impression to the song rather than that being the main point of it.
Lyrics - Kibum: “Setting apart the objectivity I have for appearance, everyone will have concerns about their appearance.”
Kibum has those times too and rather than denying it, he accepts it calmly and those are expressed in the lyrics of this song.
Q. Did the story of Snow White come to his mind when he was writing this lyrics?
Kibum: “It did come to my mind but it didn’t really influence me much.”
He wanted to write lyrics that expresses the irony of how one would hope to see a perfect self in the mirror but only looks for the imperfection in one self when looking at the mirror.
Q. Oppa has times when you get sick of your face even when you are living with your face?
Kibum: Hhahahah I am not talking about how much more good looking or uglier I am compared to others, it’s just when we set apart the objectivity towards an appearance… Of course I have! How can I not have!!! I had it in the past!!
About Mirror Mirror: I don’t intend it to be seen as me trying to show that I have been in that state before. Instead I wrote it to show that even I myself have been through this so would there be others that go through the same thing as well so if you guys are able to empathise with it, I will be very grateful.
Q. the song that got mentioned that was being stolen by Kibum at the concert
Kibum: The demo was there and I told them if there is no one who like it SO SO much then I will talk to the A&R team and will use it very very preciously but if you guys want to use it in SHINee’s album, then let me know and I will have nothing else to say. But there were no answer so I take it as it is. and that song was Good & Great. I think they didn’t think that it would be this much of a scale. As I listened to it, I had a quick intuition that it could become my title song! If it’s not being used in this way, it could be one of our favourite songs but thinking about the marketing, I wanted to do CPR to this song. (he missed out a song because he hesitated) I can’t hesitate!
CAN’T SAY GOODBYE
Kibum “It’s quite a bright song! I presented a retro trilogy didn’t I. I don’t feel excited to totally let go if the retro feeling so it would be interesting to include such a song in! and the melody is dynamic as well. You guys can feel it instantly right? It has this neutralisation feeling that it would be between Delight & Saturday Night during a concert before the flow gets deeper”
Q. Were there times when you thought about the concert setlist when choosing the songs you wanna include in your album?
Kibum: “I chose all of my songs except for my title tracks thinking about the performance I can do with them, for most of it! That’s why even in my mini album, I would always put in one slow song, 1 to 2 bright songs, and 1 to 2 songs that are deep and ones that I can show sophisticated choreographies. It’s like a cue sheet-like album. Is there any songs that I have never performed before? among the b-sides? I don’t think there is though…? If there is, send a DM to me! haha
INTOXICATING
Kenzie wrote this and even herself forgot about it. This song got to be used because it was brought out (after a long time)
Kibum “It’s like being intoxicated with something and that’s definitely love, right? So I would like it if you guys can listen to it while having that in mind. Kenzie noona made my voice like an instrument! This is personally the song that fits my preference the most other than the title song”
Q. Is there a b-side with an MV?
Kibum “No, there’s noneㅠ It would be nice to have them but just filming one MV is already tight on time… Juice was because the director of Bad Love, Gasoline said she was going to film it while grinding her bones.
Q. It gives off a Shift vibe too, was it tough when you are recording it or was there parts you paid more attention to
Kibum “It could be the toughest song? It could be it that because I was asked to use my voice like an instrument, the high notes were easy to reach. As I have been doing that for SHINee too so it was tough to express those low and detailed parts.
Kibum “It’s a solo song but I wanted it to sound like there’s a number of people so I paid attention to it on that part. For Kenzie noona’s songs, you can’t just practice like that, you have to do throughout calculation while you practice so I paid attention on that part. Other than it being tough because my throat hurts, there wasn’t much to think about musically.”
Q. Is there a timing planned for your concert?
Kibum “I hope that it would be during the year end but I don’t think the end year works so I would most likely be next year. It’s the same for me and it’s the same for the members too, if we have a good venue or a good opportunity, we kinda want to show ourselves as SHINee first! That’s because with that way, it will reach more people. If I have a venue that I can do it myself. For me, it would be good to do it the first half of the next year as long as it doesn’t go till the end of the year ㅋㅋ it’s not that there aren’t discussion about it, if the chance to present is too limited locally, there are thoughts of doing it overseas too! It’s the same for SHINee, but I don’t know precisely.
LIVE WITHOUT YOU
- sounds like a song that would be in FACE album
- A breakup song but it’s a more serious genre than CSG
- A song with a strong beat and the muffled parts in the song as if one has fallen into water left big impression
- Lyrist Jo Yunkyung wrote the lyrics and at first it was about alcohol and was like ‘fall deeper into it~’ with alcohol before it was purify to be a love song
Q. Is there a moment where you asked yourself why am I so good either when you were recording or doing your concert?
Kibum “after listening to my 1st album, I felt that I was able to expand my range but rather than thinking ‘Ah! Why am I so good in this? This is insane’ I can only think about how I should have just recorded it again a little more despite already spending 4-5 hours recording them. Rather, you guys are good at that, complimenting me. I have this thing in me that I would hear it from myself I will be like ‘this is not right though’ I am not that kind ㅋㅋ with that I am able to be better in the future. If I go ‘Wow I totally nailed it..! Then I won’t be able to improve for the rest of my life. But when I do SHINee’s I would have those thoughts ㅋㅋ Since we are separating our parts, I will feel that I have done my part! I have done my parts in this song.”
Q. What are your members reaction after listening to your songs?
Kibum has barely any time so there wasn’t a chance for him to let his members hear it and only when they filmed the challenge with him they got to listen it for the first time. Taemin told him that if the marketing method he is using works, he will use it too. Kibum called him a thug and told him ‘do it then! Have the challenges going around as reels for a week, you can do it as much as you want’
Kibum “I was really thinking if it was really okay to release it a week early? I don’t think I should be doing this though… the consciences in me tells me not to do it but once I have done it, it really isn’t such a big deal huh? I am the only one holding onto the old marketing thinking. Rather, it’s a way to reach more people faster too.”
Q. The song you spoiled at your birthday party that might appear at (fashion) shows & whats the country you want to go for fashion week or if you have a brand you desire?
Kibum “I clearly! say that I will go in January! Whether if its France or Italy! I will go! I did tell them that… but I am not sure since its D tower job to keep a lookout on that. I already told them that clearly. The show type song will be out this time! It’s a song I really love.
Q. Talks about alcohol (Kibum heard it as trash talk at first) the type of alcohol Kibum likes
Kibum “It’s been a while since I drank… Ah actually no ㅋㅋ Before starting on this album, we had a lucky draw with the dancers, key team the night before. I got permission from the managers and I don’t usually drink soju…. But just what kind of age is the 30s ㅋㅋㅋ I mainly drink white wine, alcohols that are cold and not sweet thats why I would mix this and that and thats how Kibum alcohol came about, right. Recently, I find soju with nothing added tasty. Last time, I would wonder why would everyone drink this thing that seems to be able to remove my nail polish. Recently theres no other alcohol that would make me happy when I am happy, sad when I am sad. So it’s that and Whiskey? Beer might be unexpected but when I do drink a lot, I will drink 2 cans? Altogether ㅋㅋ this is too much detail ㅋㅋ”
COOL AS
Kibum “It’s the couple song; It came to me faster than Good & Great and a song so important that I said I am going to make this album with this song. This is a song you know it’s my song even when you hear it while you tumble. It’s a song I really really like. I think I won’t be able to escape from Disco, House, Retro forever. I have done something even rougher than this. It was rawer at first because there was no bridge at first thats why I really liked it, there was no ad-lib too.”
Q. An English song that will touch Key’s fans’ heart. How will the fan chant be done?
Kibum knows that the fanchant for Helium was difficult. There will be a friendly point where there’s the word Cool As part is very clear. This song is good to have the fanchant done at those parts. As for Good & Great it would be nice to hear the part where it goes You Know That!
Q. Favorite English track; Is it intentional to not have any featuring in this album
Kibum “Personally, it’s like the love of a parent to their child and Cool As really holds a lot of my love but I can’t throw any of them away. Helium that was born out of my love, Another Life that holds my heart, I love you Imagine, Cool As that I brewed. As of now, Cool As is fresh and fun.
Kibum “To be having no featuring is because time is tight and there’s no songs that seems to fit a featuring too. Good & Great was originally a group song so I did consider and thought it would be okay to do so but I decided to have it done with just myself and just have this album with my voice only.”
Q. Was 7080 sound a genre you liked when you were young, if that’s the case, can you recommend an overseas artist
Kibum “As compared to any other things, I think I have gotten the greatest influence from Madam Kim Sunhee (Kibum’s mother). My mom really liked overseas pop songs back then and listen to ABBA the most so I liked Dancing Queen a lot ever since I was young. My mom would play Jackson 5, David Bowie too.
GOOD & GREAT
A song with points hidden in various places. A song he is trying for the first time as a solo artist. The challenge is not focus on the dance but other various things and he is glad that the challenges are not burdened by the dance.
Q. How does it feel to have fans participating in the marketing strategy via Notion, SantaFive and what’s the effect from it?
Kibum “I do know to a certain extend that the marketing done when releasing an album will not reach everyone in the country. Whether if it’s for a selected community or if it’s just between us, the least we can do is for us to enjoy this that’s why it’s being made. People who have no interest in me, would they know that I have done notion, if I decorated the office or if I have said them objectively? I think they won’t know. It’s just fun, people from other community will start doing so if this marketing method works for them. I think everyone is enjoying it. I am feeling grateful about the positive remarks given to me even if they were just passing remarks. That’s because, as compared to last time, there are more and more people who are jealous of our fans hehe The staffs really helped a lot this time. I am taking it as a successful one. It’s the extend that I am wondering if we are able to do this much again.”
Q. Tracklist sequence; You always gift yourself a gift before the start of a promotion, what is it this time?
Kibum “In the past, I thought it would be okay even if the title song is not the first track in the album but recently, it can only be the first track… For the album name too, I wanted to make it a little different but I have no choice, it’s an order I need to stick to to reach out to one more person. The song after the title song will be one that can supports the title song, the next song will be one that can let him breathe before it follows up with a little more excited song and it will then go down to a calm song in the end. Actually, I have lost my material desires nowadays so there isn’t anything I can buy… there isn’t much things that would make me feel happy after getting them. It was AirPod max during Gasoline but I don’t think I have gotten it yet… but I think once I am done with this, iPhone would be out already.”
Q. Is there an outfit from your jacket images that will be worn on stage; do you have plans for your 3rd regular album next year?
Kibum “the outfits in the jacket images would probably be used on stage I guess? But if it will drop down when I am dancing or if it doesn’t pass the review, there would be development done to them. (fans were showing signs of pity) Just by shooting for that! Do you guys know how much I! (shows how he keeps pulling his pants down) Because it was for pictures so I bear with it. If the shape stays that way, I would probably wear it and I would probably use the wings too. And of course, the Prada is definitely a look that can’t be thrown away. If I am going to do my regular 3rd album, I will be able to of course. I just need to start collecting songs and I will be able to do so but I can’t make promises. I do have the heart to do it but isn’t it better to release a mini than to be waiting for it? that’s what I think so for a regular album so it will be done when it feels like ‘I have everything! let’s go!’ It’s not like I am not going to release any regular albums anymore ㅋㅋㅋ I will do it when I can!
